Vermilion Fire Department Incidents

From the desk of Vermilion Fire Chief Bill Brown, here is a summary of fire department activity for the week of September 13 through September 19:

Sept. 14, 4:05 a.m. – EMS assist, South Shore Court
VFD assisted Lifecare with moving a bariatric patient experiencing low blood sugar. Two trucks, six personnel.

Sept. 14, 2:23 p.m. – Motor vehicle accident, Liberty Ave & Grand
Non-injury accident. Assisted VPD. Two trucks, six personnel.

Sept. 14, 5:35 p.m. – Motor vehicle accident, West River Road
Elderly male accidentally slid lawn mower into ditch. Three trucks, eight personnel.

Sept. 14, 10:53 p.m. – Commercial fire alarm, Liberty Avenue
Nothing found on arrival. Four trucks, eight personnel.

Sept. 15, 10:00 a.m. – EMS assist, Bank Street
Assisted Lifecare with lifting/moving bariatric patient. Three trucks, four personnel.

Sept. 16, 3:50 p.m. – Natural gas line rupture, Edgewater Blvd
Gas service line struck by contractor. Three trucks, six personnel.

Sept. 17, 3:29 p.m. – EMS assist, Breezewood Lane
Assisted Lifecare with patient who had fallen. Two trucks, five personnel.

Sept. 18, 10:52 a.m. – Motor vehicle accident, North Ridge Road
Single-car accident; vehicle found on passenger side, driver had fled. Two trucks, eight personnel.

Sept. 18, 5:54 p.m. – Commercial fire alarm, Liberty Avenue
Crews investigated recurring alarm issue; Fire Marshal involved with property for repairs. Three trucks, eight personnel.

Sept. 19, 8:44 a.m. – Odor investigation, Liberty Avenue
Responded to reported smoke odor in building; no cause found. Three trucks, six personnel.

Sept. 19, 6:04 p.m. – EMS assist, Telegraph Lane
Responded for patient with shortness of breath after Lifecare was unavailable. One truck, five personnel.

For non-emergency needs, residents are asked to call Vermilion Police Dispatch at 440-967-6116. In the event of an emergency, always dial 911.
