At just 13 years old, Vermilion native Compact is already making his mark in the local music scene. The young rapper, producer, and songwriter is set to release his debut album, The Real One, on October 24, showcasing both confidence and introspection far beyond his years.
In a text interview, Compact shared how his journey started in seventh grade. It began as a joke among friends. “One of my friends started a fake beef as a joke, and I decided to make a real song against the kid,” he said. “It got really popular at school, and ironically, I became close friends with the kid I made the song about. Now we’re really good friends, and he actually produces all my songs.”
That partnership grew into something special. Compact said his producer prefers to stay private, but their collaboration shaped The Real One, a 10-track album running about 30 minutes. “The first half is stereotypical rap, like bragging,” he explained, “then a track called ‘Beige Era’ turns the album introspective. The rest dives into more emotional, thoughtful tracks before it ends with a statement.”
Despite his age, Compact is focused and determined. “I would love to perform,” he said, “but so far, I haven’t gotten a chance due to my short catalog and age. I’m posting the album on every music service. I don’t really have social media yet, but I plan to get some soon.”
Compact hopes his story inspires others to create, no matter where they start. “Always create, no matter how old or young you are,” he said. “I’m only 13, and I made an album — that’s something. I’d like to thank my parents and my awesome producer; he’s helped me so much.”
