The Vermilion Sailors boys varsity wrestling team opened the 2025–26 season Saturday with a solid showing at the Coventry Clash, held at Coventry High School.
Senior Aiden Kyser led the Sailors’ effort by winning the tournament championship at 157 pounds. Kyser finished 5–0 on the day, earning five falls to secure first place in his weight class.
As a team, Vermilion placed fifth overall in the tournament standings.
Several other Sailors contributed to the team result with podium finishes and key wins throughout the day. James Hinkel, Mack Mooney, and Isaac Kyser each worked their way to third-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Austin Sergent placed fourth, while Julien “Spider Monkey” Lind, Ashton Juszczyk, Gabriel Bailey, and Chase “Action” Jackson all recorded wins during tournament competition.
The Sailors will compete next at home when they host the Vermilion Holiday Duals on December 19 and 20 at the Vermilion High School gymnasium
