VERMILION – The Vermilion Local School District Board of Education selected Mark Benson as board president and Sara Stepp as vice president for 2026 during its organizational meeting on January 12.
The board voted unanimously for both leadership positions. Benson will preside over all board meetings throughout the year, while Stepp will serve as vice president and assist in setting priorities and guiding policy discussions.
Shelly Innes served as president pro tem to begin the election process. The votes followed the swearing-in of returning member Stepp and newly elected member Jill Treece.

The reorganization also included annual committee appointments. Krystal Russell was named the district’s legislative liaison to the Ohio School Boards Association, and Innes was selected as the student achievement liaison.
Both Benson and Stepp will serve in their roles through the end of the 2026 calendar year. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for February 9 at 6 p.m. in the Vermilion High School Commons.
