VERMILION — Main Street Vermilion has announced a new community event, the Vermilion Lantern Parade, scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, in historic downtown Vermilion.
The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Main Street Beach. Participants will walk along the sidewalks south on Main Street, west on Liberty Avenue, and continue to Grand Street, ending at the Vermilion Lighthouse.
Organizers say the event is inspired by community-centered lantern celebrations and is intended to bring residents and visitors together for an evening of creativity, connection, and seasonal reflection. Positioned between the summer tourism season and the start of the holidays, the parade is designed as an opportunity for families, friends, and neighbors to gather and celebrate the community.
Participation Details
Participants are encouraged to create and carry their own LED lanterns during the parade. The event is free to participate in.
For safety, open flames and the release of lanterns are not permitted, and pets are not allowed within the parade procession.
Community lantern workshops and take-home lantern kits will be announced in the coming months to help participants design their own creations.
“The Lantern Parade is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in a creative and meaningful way during a beautiful time of year in Vermilion,” said Christine Leonard, event chair. “We hope families, friends, and visitors will enjoy making their own lanterns and walking together to celebrate the connection that makes our community so special.”
Music will lead the procession through downtown as lanterns illuminate the early evening sky.
Where to Watch
Community members who prefer to watch are encouraged to gather along the parade route. Recommended viewing areas include:
- Exchange Park

The event is presented in partnership with Public Art Vermilion, Vermilion in Bloom, the Arts Guild of Vermilion, and Shores & Islands Ohio.
