Something New Planned for Main Street Vermilion’s 25th Anniversary
VERMILION — A new high-tech finale is coming to one of Vermilion’s most popular holiday traditions.
According to their press release, Main Street Vermilion has announced plans to add a drone light show to its 2026 Light Up Vermilion celebration, marking the organization’s 25th anniversary with a first-of-its-kind display over downtown.
The show is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4, 2026, at 8 p.m., and will feature a fleet of synchronized drones creating animated patterns and images in the night sky, choreographed to music.
A New Finale for a Familiar Tradition
Light Up Vermilion has long been a staple of the holiday season, drawing residents and visitors downtown for an evening of shopping, activities and seasonal events.
Organizers say the addition of a drone light show is designed to serve as a grand finale, bringing the community together to close out the night in a new way.
During the April 21 Parks and Recreation Board meeting, officials reviewed and approved the event request, which includes use of the Main Street Beach area for staging and launch.
The plan also includes temporary street closures along Main Street to allow for safe viewing and necessary clearance for the drones.
A New Finale for a Milestone Year
Organizers say the show is intended to highlight Main Street Vermilion’s impact over the past 25 years while looking ahead to the future.
“This is something entirely new and incredibly exciting for Vermilion,” said Committee Chair Rose Ramsey. “As we celebrate 25 years of Main Street Vermilion, we wanted to create a moment that feels special and memorable.”
