Harbourtown Hall Hosts Maker Market Featuring Local Vendors

VERMILION — Harbourtown Hall in downtown Vermilion hosted its Maker Market on April 25, drawing a steady flow of visitors throughout the day to shop local artisans, crafters and makers.

By early afternoon, the space was filled with shoppers, with an estimated 200 people attending in addition to the 22 vendors. The strong turnout created a lively atmosphere, with parking at a premium during peak hours.

A Focus on Quality and Variety

The event featured 22 vendors, each hand-selected by owner Mike Lazusky to create a balanced mix of offerings. Rather than allowing one category to dominate, Lazusky said he focuses on maintaining variety so shoppers can experience a wide range of products without oversaturation.

“I believe in quality over quantity,” Lazusky said, noting that vendors are spaced out to allow room for browsing and conversation.

Instead of packing in as many vendors as possible, Lazusky said he prioritizes spacing and selection, giving each vendor the opportunity to stand out while creating a more comfortable shopping experience.

The market ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and featured a variety of handmade goods and locally produced items. Another Maker Market event is already in the works, with plans to return in August.

Keeping the event free to attend is another way Lazusky said he supports both vendors and visitors.

“I don’t charge anything to get in. I’d rather have people spend their money with the vendors,” Lazusky said.
