Amherst man dies after motorcycle crash on U.S. Route 6

VERMILION — A 35-year-old Amherst man has died following a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening on U.S. Route 6 in Vermilion, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers with the Elyria Post are investigating the fatal crash, which occurred at 7:53 p.m. March 21 on U.S. Route 6 near Sunnyside Road.

According to a news release from the patrol, a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado was stopped at a traffic light on U.S. Route 6 eastbound at Sunnyside Road when it was struck from behind by a 2025 Yamaha YZF-R7 motorcycle. The patrol said the motorcycle failed to maintain assured clear distance ahead.

The motorcycle operator, Corey Yarmock, 35, of Amherst, was transported from the scene by EMS with life-threatening injuries. He later died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, according to the patrol.

Yarmock was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Silverado, Grady Watkins, 21, of Lexington, Tennessee, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Vermilion Police Department, Vermilion Fire Department, LifeCareAmbulance EMS and D&A Towing.
