Volleyball and football players earn recognition
VERMILION — Two Vermilion High School sophomores have been named this week’s Sailor Standouts following impressive performances in volleyball and football.
Payton Strickler — Volleyball
Sophomore Payton Strickler led the Sailors’ offense with 19 kills, two blocks and three digs during a key conference matchup.
Strickler’s performance at the net helped Vermilion secure a third-place finish in the conference standings. Her strong offensive play and ability to deliver when her team needed her most earned her recognition as one of this week’s standout athletes.
Landon Mooney — Football
Sophomore Landon Mooney rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns against Edison, averaging 8.9 yards per carry despite rainy and windy conditions.
His performance Friday night pushed him past 1,000 rushing yards for the season, marking a major milestone for the sophomore running back.
Mooney’s performance, supported by the Sailors’ offensive line, earned him Player of the Week honors and a spot among this week’s Sailor Standouts.
