The Vermilion Board of Education met Sept. 8 and voted 4–0, with one member absent (Krystal Russell), to accept the superintendent’s retirement effective Oct. 10, 2025, then returned from executive session to name Wesley “Wes” Weaver interim superintendent effective Oct. 11, 2025.

Labor: The board approved a memorandum of understanding with OAPSE Local 322 to correct vacation-pay language in Article 36 of the negotiated agreement.

Treasurer’s report: The board approved the August 2025 financials. Year-to-date general fund revenue is about $9.22 million, with roughly $5.0 million in general fund expenditures. Capital outlay is higher than last year because bus purchases posted in July. Food costs are up, and the district is awaiting a delinquent public-utility personal property tax payment from West Vermilion Power. General fund cash stands at about $13.0 million, lower than last year after a previously approved $7.66 million transfer to capital projects for facility needs if the November bond levy fails.

Donations: $1,250 from the OHSAA Enrichment Fund to the Vermilion Athletic Fund; a clay wedging table from John Williams to the VHS Art Department; and $800 from Cliff German to the Vermilion Athletic Fund.

Transportation: Authorized the Ohio Schools Council to solicit bids for one 54-passenger handicapped school bus (chassis and body) and one 12-passenger school van.

Consent agenda highlights: Ten preschool tuition scholarships for 2025–26; a $7,000 contract with Men of Courage Youth Mentoring for 2025–26; the Bright Ideas Speech Therapy agreement at $125 per hour; FFA travel to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 29–Nov. 1, 2025; and routine personnel items including resignations, a retirement, leaves, drivers-in-training, and supplemental assignments.

Upcoming meetings: Oct. 13, Nov. 10, and Dec. 8, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Vermilion High School Commons, 1250 Sanford St.
