Rodger Scott, former Vermilion Township trustee and community servant, dies at 82

VERMILION TWP. — Rodger D. Scott, 82, of Vermilion Township, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Kingston of Vermilion following a brief illness.

Born February 5, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, Scott was a longtime resident of Vermilion Township whose life reflected decades of service to his country and community.

A life of service

Scott served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he began a 30-year career with Ford Motor Company in Lorain, where he worked in the paint booth before retiring.

He also served the City of Vermilion as a police officer and later served as a trustee for Vermilion Twp.

Community and family

Scott was a member of Harbourtown Community Church and a 32nd Degree Mason with Ely Lodge No. 424. He was known as a skilled craftsman who enjoyed auto body work and restoring cars. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling, especially cruises, and gathering with friends and family for volleyball parties.

Above all, he treasured time with his family, especially his grandsons.

Scott is survived by his wife, Karen Scott; his sons, Bret Scott and Rick Scott; his grandsons, Nathan and Alex; and his brother, Art Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, DeWitt “Red” and Ardie Madena Scott, and his brothers, Chris and Pete Scott.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 24, from 4 p.m. until the time of veterans honors and funeral services at 6 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. A Masonic service will begin at 4 p.m.
