North Carolina man taken into custody
VERMILION — A company truck reported stolen in Vermilion was recovered hours later near the Ohio-Indiana border after its OnStar system helped police track its location.
Vermilion police responded to Parsons Marina, 600 Sandusky St., shortly before 8 p.m. July 5 for a report of a stolen 2025 Chevrolet Silverado, according to a police report.
The vehicle had last been seen about 3 p.m. Police confirmed it had been stolen and entered it into the Law Enforcement Automated Data System.
The owner told police the truck was equipped with OnStar and could be tracked through a cellphone app. The vehicle was shown traveling west on Interstate 80, prompting Vermilion police to alert the Ohio State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies.
The Williams County Sheriff’s Office later found the truck unoccupied at a Flying J near the Ohio-Indiana border, according to the report.
Deputies found 26-year-old Benjamin Cagle, of Bryson City, North Carolina, near the vehicle and took him into custody. Williams County authorities told Vermilion police Cagle was being charged with receiving stolen property.
Authorities were working to obtain surveillance footage from truck stops to determine whether Cagle was driving the stolen vehicle, according to the report. Police said additional charges could be possible.

Vermilion police also checked with local businesses and residents for surveillance video as the investigation continued.
